“Just one more” is not a plan.
You can feel an urgent need to get back to the number your account used to show. But a previous loss does not make the next outcome kinder. Treat the urge to recover everything today as a reason to slow down, not increase exposure.
The arithmetic is asymmetric.
Start with 100. Lose 50% and you have 50. To return from 50 to 100, you need a 100% gain on what remains. This is arithmetic, not a forecast—and certainly not a target you should chase. Try the loss-recovery explainer →
Notice what is happening outside the account.
Hiding activity, repeatedly breaking your own limits, or using money you need for essentials are reasons to seek support. You do not have to wait for a dramatic loss. The NHS describes similar warning signs in its gambling guidance; this guide is not a diagnosis.
Make the next step smaller.
Step away from the screen. Tell someone safe what is happening. Avoid fresh speculative deposits while you get perspective. Existing leveraged positions may still carry obligations: contact your provider or a qualified adviser about managing them rather than simply ignoring alerts.
